Terms/Definitions
BED- An informal expression of ionizing radioactive exposure, intended as a general educational example to indicate the potential dose due to naturally occurring radioactive isotopes by eating one average-sized banana.
Scientific instrument- An instrument used for scientific purposes.
X-ray- An electromagnetic wave of high energy and very short wavelength, which is able to pass through many materials opaque to light.
Microwave- a form of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths ranging from one meter to one millimeter with frequencies between 300 mhz (100cm) ang 300 ghz (0.1cm)
electromagnetic spectrum- The collective term for all known frequencies and their linked wavelengths of the known phototns.
Radiowave- A type of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths in the elctromagnetic spectrum longer than infrared light.
gammaray- penetrating electromagnetic radiation of a kind arising from the radioactive decay of atomic nuclei and consits of high energy phototns.
ultraviolet photography- A photographic process of recording images by using light from the ultraviolet spectrum only.
radiation- the emission or transmission of energy in the form of waves or particles through space or through a material medium.
ultraviolet photography- A photographic process of recording images by using light from the ultraviolet spectrum only.
potassium- a chemical element with symbol k and atomic number 19.
chronic exposure- continuous or repeated contact with a toxic substance over a long period of time.
microsievert- a derived unit of ionizing radiation dose in the international system of units.
radiation poisoning- acute radiation syndrome, also known as radiation poisoning, radiation sickness, or radiation toxicity, is a collection of health effects that are present within 24 hours of exposure to high amounts of ionizing radiation.
Constellation- a group of stars forming a recognizable pattern that is traditionally named after its apparent form or identified with a mythological figure.
phenomenon- a fact or situation that is observed to exist or happen, especially one whose cause or explanation is in question.
